Bumper Repair & Replacement in Lavon

A bumper is built to take the hit, and between causeway traffic toward Wylie and deer out on SH 78 past Farmersville, it takes plenty of them. We fix what you see and what it was protecting.

More Than a Cover

The part most folks call the bumper is really just a painted plastic skin. Tucked behind it you'll find an energy absorber, a metal impact bar, a row of brackets and, on newer vehicles, parking sensors and radar. A deer strike or a bump from a trailer tongue can crack the cover while also crushing the absorber and bending the bar. Replacing only the cover leaves the vehicle with less protection than it had. So we take the cover off and check everything behind it. Then we decide what can be repaired and what needs to be replaced, and we explain that before the work starts.

Bumper Work We Handle

A bumper repair can be a small plastic weld or a whole assembly. Here's the range of it.

  • Plastic welding for cracks and tears

A split or tear in the cover can often be fused on the back side with a matching plastic rod, with mesh pressed in behind for strength.

  • Scuff and gouge repair

Scuffed corners and gouges are sanded, filled with flexible material and painted the body color.

  • New cover when the old one is done

When a cover is shattered or missing tabs, we replace it with a new one, trial-fit before paint.

  • Foam and steel behind the cover

The foam absorber and the metal bar behind it get checked for crush and bend. Damaged pieces are replaced, not reused.

  • Brackets and mounting tabs

A sagging or gapped bumper almost always traces back to a snapped bracket. We replace them so the cover sits tight to the fenders and grille.

  • Parking sensors and radar

Sensors are checked and moved to the new cover, and radar units for cruise control and automatic braking are aimed after the repair.

  • Steel truck bumpers

Pickup bumpers bent by hitch hits or hay bales can be straightened or replaced, with the step pads and brackets fitted back on.

  • Lamps, grilles and trim

Fog lamps, grille pieces and trim that broke along with the bumper are replaced so the front or rear looks complete again.

Fixing a Bumper the Right Way

  1. 01

    Pull the cover and inspect

First the cover comes off so we can look over the absorber, bar, brackets and any sensors back there. Photos go into the estimate along with each part. If insurance is paying, the adjuster gets the full picture. Before work starts, you'll know which parts we plan to fix and which we plan to swap.

  2. 02

    Repair or replace the parts

Broken brackets and crushed absorbers are swapped out. The cover is welded, filled and shaped if it's repairable, or a new one is trial-fit. Sensors and their mounts are moved over or replaced. Everything is test-fit before paint.

  3. 03

    Paint, mount and calibrate

The cover is painted with a flexible additive and matched to the body color. After it's bolted up, we sight the gaps along the fenders and headlamps. Sensors and radar get tested and aimed wherever the system requires it. One last scan makes sure the dash is clear of warning lights.

Why Bumper Jobs Belong With a Body Shop

  • We look behind it

The cover is only the face of the bumper. The absorber and bar behind it do the real work in the next hit, so those get our attention too.

  • Repair when it's sound

A cover that can be welded and refinished properly doesn't need replacing. When it can't, we don't stretch it.

  • Radar aimed after the fix

A bumper that hides a misaimed radar can make the safety systems act strange. We test them so the vehicle drives the way it did before the hit.
